This mantel clock brought a handsome sale!

At Auction Bay, we are pleased to see antique mantel clocks come across our counter with some frequency.  Here’s a great example: an E.N. Welch Mantel Clock with a white face and wooden housing, in great condition!  This handsome timepiece brought an impressive $152.50 at auction on eBay!

We’ve seen all manner of mantel clocks, from simple wood block clocks to marble and slate creations to elaborate brass and glass enclosures, from names like Seth Thomas, Gilbert, Bucherer, New Haven, and many more.  Our skilled photographers pour over every inch of these clocks to capture any and all maker’s marks, and we can often find markings on the clockwork itself (which can be difficult when this clockwork is hidden behind the face with no back panel!

If you have an old mantel clock, even one that isn’t fully functional, it can bring a pretty penny on eBay.  Contact Auction Bay, and we’ll help get it sold for you!

This Le Coultre Atmos clock sold for $458.00!

This Le Coultre Atmos clock sold for $458.00!

It wasn’t long ago we shared with you a classic clock which sold very well, but we’ve got another one that deserves attention!

This brass Mantel Clock, model 528-6 by Le Coultre Atmos, isn’t as old as that Howard Miller piece, but its striking design, immaculate condition, and incredible clockwork brought it considerably higher bids!  We made sure to photo not only the face and maker’s marks, but to do so in a way that the gleam of the brass really caught the eye!  The brand name is sought-after, and the 15 Jewel VXN movement is a great selling point, but the close-ups that show the gleaming gears and even the cut grain of the metal had several of our bidders drooling!

In the end, this fantastic clock sold for $458.00

This Howard Miller Mantel Clock sold for $122.50!

This Howard Miller Mantel Clock sold for $122.50!

We recently sold a great antique mantel clock, made by one of the most reputable names in clockmaking.  Ranked among the best are Seth Thomas and Howard Miller, and this one in particular got a lot of attention.

When listing a clock like this one, we take special care to take detailed photos of the face and the clockwork, and any identifying maker’s tags.  It will sell really well if it has working movement with multiple tones and chime sounds.  This one had bim-bam chimes and a a selector to allow it to play one of three tunes: Westminster, Saint Michaels, and Whittier (plus one more for silent).  The No. 143 Triple Wind 612-430 Mantel Clock’s functional and attractive condition brought an impressive $122.50 sale price.
